Planning permission has been given today (23/2/17) by Sheffield City Council for a new Multi Use Games Area at Birkdale Preparatory School. The MUGA will sit in a restricted site between the Grade 2 listed building, the mature tree copse at the south of the site and the adjacent Grade 2 Botanical Gardens. The new synthetic surfaced MUGA will be fully accessible and provide an enhanced play and sporting practice area for the school children on site, replacing a grassed area prone to being muddy and unuseable. The new MUGA is designed using a cellular base structure that enables a no dig solution that means the MUGA can be sited in the root protection areas of the adjacent mature trees.
The following concept images show the MUGA, the new stepped access (level access is not shown), edge paving is also reduced in the approved scheme.
